Thought we’d gone away?
I watched a programme tonight about pensioners and their hardships in relation to keeping themselves warm on a State pension in Britain – given that fuel prices have risen by 73 percent since 1970. Last week’s news covered how much petroleum companies had made in profit… Coincidence? I think not. The real money is in stealth taxes; that way any government can legitimately and without conscience say that we are all treated equally.
None of this is related, until you see the people affected by their predicament. The bloke who has to give up his job because he can no longer afford to drive to work, or the poor pensioner, who after surviving post-war hardship and working all their life who has to make the decision whether to heat their home – or to eat, as their reward for paying into the government tax plan has evaporated, along with the sentiment and promises made by an eager electorate (God I love this planet – but only because there’s no alternative). Anyway this brings me back to The Knob point view.
As hard as it is for everyone at the moment (humming the ditty and remembering the words of that comedy duo, good old Tony Blair/Brown) “things – can only get better”… Yes they can. It’s all a matter of perspective. Perspective is a brilliant tool, if used constructively (especially by designers, draughts-persons and architects). If I was an STI organism, things are looking up and are great, as I have more hosts where I can incubate and my purpose for being can continue. Now, if we look at a long-term government strategy, you would think getting rid of the little pesky bleeders would be somewhere towards the top on your list of health concerns, but you have to have realism and a sense of perspective. From a government perspective (1) is it necessary? (2) Is it cost-effective? And, (3) can it be measured to make them look good? Well, despite the efforts of statisticians to record every case – no it can’t. However, using the perspective tool at the right angle, STIs could be used to their advantage.
Given that we have all the stealth taxes in Europe and the rest of the world, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out, that it’s all about money. Given that this country cannot look after and afford its old people, using the perspective tool it’s clear; if more young people catch STIs, which will possibly make them sterile, or cause long-term, possibly permanent damage, then there won’t be a need to watch the news, about people who can’t afford to live. Simple. That and a whole host of other ‘inconvenient ‘ ailments.
I have no faith in any government to put the interest of their people first – it doesn’t exist on my planet. As we all know, behaviour is learnt…(Is it?)
